Friday, May 12
SOFTBALL Methodist 2, Muhlenberg 1; Savannah Art & Design 8, Muhlenberg 5. The Mules suffered a pair of last at-bat losses and were eliminated on the first day of the NCAA Tournament. In the first game, an unearned run scored on a bloop single in the bottom of the 10th broke up a gripping pitchers' duel. Senior Heather Dreby allowed only seven hits in 9 2/3 innings and struck out four in her school-record 65th career complete game. A two-out single by freshman Meghan Woods in the top of the seventh drove in Muhlenberg's lone run. Sophomore Liz Kostelnick had three of the Mules' eight hits. Muhlenberg could not hold leads of 3-0 and 5-3 in the elimination game. Sophomore Lori Blanchfield tied a school and NCAA Tournament record by stealing three bases in the first two innings, but the Mules mustered little offense the rest of the game.
