Tuesday, March 6 SOFTBALL Muhlenberg 3, Mt. Union 2; Indiana Wesleyan 1, Muhlenberg 0. Sophomore Melissa Arnotts double with one out in the bottom of the seventh drove in junior Elizabeth Kostelnick with the winning run to lift Muhlenberg to a dramatic win in the opener. Freshman Nicole Sarno opened the last inning with her third hit and was sacrificed to second before getting driven in by Kostelnick. Freshman Danielle DeLucia pitched a four-hitter and struck out six in her first career appearance to get the win. In the second game, the Mules wasted a seven-hit complete-game effort by sophomore Jessica Crowley in her second career start. Click here for line scores. BASEBALL Muhlenberg 17, Indiana Wesleyan 5. Freshman lefthander Chris OConnor, making his first career start, allowed six hits and struck out seven in seven innings as Muhlenberg won its third straight. Senior David Wolf tied a career high with six RBI, three on a bases-loaded double in a seven-run third inning. The Mules put the game away by scoring nine runs in the eighth, setting a school record with 10 hits in the inning. Senior Marcus Mattielli had two hits in the frame and drove in three runs. Sophomore Justin Graf recorded his second consecutive three-hit game. Click here for line score. MENS GOLF finished 19th at Northwood Invitational. Muhlenberg was ahead of three teams after the first round of its first spring tournament, but faltered on the second day. Click here for box score. WOMENS TENNIS Methodist 7, Muhlenberg 2. In a match played in Miami, the Mules No. 1 doubles team of freshman Mackenzie Parke and junior Jennifer Chung scored an impressive 8-6 win against a Methodist duo that won the national championship at the Division III Rolex Tournament in Memphis last fall. Muhlenbergs only other win came from sophomore Lindsay Goward in three sets at sixth singles. Click here for box score.
Wednesday, March 7 BASEBALL Adelphi 18, Muhlenberg 5. Muhlenberg had its three-game winning streak snapped by Division II Adelphi. Junior Steve Rohn and senior Marcus Mattielli each had a pair of hits for the Mules. Click here for line score. MENS TENNIS Northwood 9, Muhlenberg 0. Thursday, March 8 SOFTBALL Muhlenberg 6, Heidelberg 5; Muhlenberg 7, Loras 3. A two-run double by junior Elizabeth Kostelnick capped a four-run sixth inning that lifted Muhlenberg to the first of two wins. The Mules trailed 5-2 before freshman Jaclyn Maser led off the sixth with a double. An RBI single by Becki Toth and three consecutive walks set the stage for Kostelnicks big hit. Toth went 3-for-4 with a double in the second game. Freshman Jamie Slivka had her first career hit and two RBI. Click here for line scores. BASEBALL Muhlenberg 11, Dominican 1. Junior Steve Rohn threw six shutout innings in his first career start and drove in three runs to lead Muhlenberg to its fourth win in five games. Rohn, who allowed only two singles and struck out six, doubled as part of the Mules four-run first inning. That frame also featured the 100th career hit for David Wolf, an RBI single. He is the 19th player in school history to reach the century mark. Junior Joshua Carter had two extra-base hits to move to within one of becoming the 20th. Click here for line score.
Friday, March 9 BASEBALL Indiana Wesleyan 9, Muhlenberg 3. A Muhlenberg player reached the 100-hit milestone for the second straight day, but it came in a losing effort. Junior Joshua Carter became the 20th Mule player to reach the century mark when he singled leading off the ninth. Seniors Michael Cirillo and David Wolf and sophomore Ben Carr each had two hits for Muhlenberg. Click here for line score.
Saturday, March 10 BASEBALL Albertus Magnus 11, Muhlenberg 6. The Mules closed their Florida trip with a loss. Muhlenberg fell into a 10-1 hole after three innings and could not climb back despite 6 2/3 innings of excellent long relief by junior Ryan White and sophomore Sunil Bangali. Sophomore Justin Graf and juniors Joshua Carter and Ben Leisawitz each had a pair of hits. Click here for line score.
