Senior Joshua Carter and junior Kevin Komeshok combined on a five-hitter
to pitch the Muhlenberg baseball team to a 4-2 win over Misericordia in
its home opener.
Carter also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 and driving in two runs. He tied the school record for career doubles by smacking his 30th two-bagger to plate Muhlenbergs final run in the fourth. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, the Mules quickly tied the score in the bottom of the inning on a double by senior Mike Morris and a two-out single by sophomore Adam Sadler. Muhlenberg scored twice without the benefit of a hit in the third. After junior Justin Graf was hit by a pitch for the second time, a sacrifice bunt by junior Justin Rubenstein was thrown away for a two-base error. Carter lined out to center to score Graf, and Rubenstein came around on a groundout by senior Benjamin Leisawitz. Two walks one by Graf on an 11-pitch at-bat and Carters record-tying double scored the fourth run. The Cougars (5-3) scored an unearned run in the sixth but were foiled on an attempted first-and-third steal play to end the inning. The Mule pitching staff has a 2.81 ERA over the last nine games. |
