LACROSSE FALLS IN CC OPENER
The Muhlenberg lacrosse team dropped its first Centennial Conference game of the season, 20-6 at Franklin & Marshall. The game was tied 2-2 a third of the way through the first half, but the Diplomats (4-2), who are ranked 13th in Division III, reeled off the next six goals and had a 14-5 lead at halftime. Senior Teresa Lunardi and junior Sarah Bowman had two goals and an assist apiece for the Mules (1-3). |
MENS TENNIS KNOCKS OFF MORAVIAN
A come-from-behind victory at No. 1 doubles was the key match as the Muhlenberg mens tennis team defeated Moravian, 5-2. The win evened the Matte Award standings for the 2001-02 school year at
Juniors Brad Scheller and Matt Fleissig trailed 5-2 at first doubles, then survived a match point at 7-6. With the other two doubles matches already completed, one win for each team, Scheller and Fleissig won the final three games to give the Mules (2-0) the doubles point. We were down, and we realized that we had to pick up the intensity and play up to our potential, commented Fleissig. Wins at fourth through sixth singles by freshman Jeff Kraft, sophomore Brian Barkauskas and freshman Mitchell Reading, respectively, gave Muhlenberg the four points they needed to claim the match. The two remaining matches on the court were abandoned because of darkness, with each team receiving a half-point for both. |
