Freshman Ally Ogden pitched a five-hit shutout in her first career start to highlight the final day of an outstanding Spring Break trip for the Muhlenberg softball team, especially its pitchers.

The Mules defeated Widener, 2-1, and Mt. Union, 4-0, to finish the Rebel

Toth, who batted .393 in Florida, was involved in all but one of the Mules’ six runs against Widener and Mt. Union.

Spring Games with a 6-2 record. The pitching staff (Ogden, senior Angela Tyson and sophomore Danielle DeLucia) combined to allow only 15 runs (eight earned) in the eight games for a sterling 1.02 ERA.

Ogden, pitching the second game, tamed a Mt. Union offense that had averaged six runs in winning its first eight games. She struck out only one but did not allow a runner past first base after the second inning.

Junior Kristen Best’s two-out single in the second drove in the only run Ogden would need, but she got some breathing room in the fourth when sophomore Becki Toth rapped a bases-loaded double.

DeLucia fired a six-hitter in the opener. Tyson, playing right field, had two hits and scored the first run and also threw out three runners on the basepaths.

The game was tied 1-1 in the last inning when Toth drew a two-out walk. Consecutive singles by Best and junior Kelly Berg brought her in with the winning run.

Freshman Aaron Regensburg allowed no earned runs over five innings and junior Kevin Komeshok picked up his third save of the season as the Muhlenberg baseball team topped Concordia (Mich.) for the third time in four days, 7-4.

The victory clinches the second straight winning trip to

Komeshok has saved half of the Mules’ six wins. The school record for saves in a season is eight.

Florida for the Mules (6-5), who are 5-3 in the Sunshine State with a game to play against Wesleyan tomorrow. Muhlenberg had never come back from Spring Break with a winning record until going 5-4 last year.

This is also the first time in team history that the Mules have defeated a team three times in the same season, although the opportunities to do that have been limited.

Regensburg (2-1) took a two-out shutout into the fifth before two errors led to three unearned runs. He departed in favor of Komeshok after the leadoff batter in the sixth singled. Regensburg has a 0.56 ERA in his first three starts.

Komeshok got out of the sixth on a double play, then allowed a run in the seventh before striking out the potential tying run to end the game.

Muhlenberg scored a run in the first on three straight singles, the last by junior Ben Carr, and added two more in the third on a two-run single by junior Justin Graf. Senior Joshua Carter, who went 3-for-4, singled in Graf in the fourth.

The Mules got three important insurance runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Carr and a two-out, two-run triple by freshman Matt Long. Graf, Carr, Long and senior Mike Morris all had two hits.
