SOFTBALL NO-HIT IN OPENER
Lefty Mandy Schenck pitched a no-hitter in the first game as The College of New Jersey ended Muhlenbergs eight-game winning streak with a doubleheader sweep, 3-0 and 6-3. Schenck struck out 10 and allowed only five baserunners, two on walks and three on hit batters. The Mules (16-10) made their best bid for a hit and a run in the top of the seventh, when they got runners to second and third before the final batter was called out on a close play at first. Sophomore Danielle DeLucia pitched a four-hitter but was the hard-luck loser. In the second game, Muhlenberg fell behind 2-0 in the third, then tied the game with two runs on its first four hits of the day in the fourth. TCNJ (19-8) went ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth, and the Mules appeared to have evened the score again in the top of the fifth, but the fourth run was taken back when the runner was called out for not touching home plate. Junior Meghan Woods was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. |
