WOMENS TENNIS DEFEATS NYU
In a matchup between teams that both entered with 7-1 spring records, the Muhlenberg womens tennis team swept the doubles and went on to defeat New York University, 6½-2½. Sophomore Gena Ross teamed with freshman Emily Oster for an 8-3 win at second doubles, then posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at first singles to remain undefeated (a combined 17-0) for the spring. Sophomore Mackenzie Parke and senior Jennifer Chung won a marathon first singles match, 9-8 (7-5). The win was the 13th straight at home for the Mules, who also received the good news that Franklin & Marshall defeated Johns Hopkins, 7-2. That left two teams with one loss in the Centennial Conference Muhlenberg and Washington. Franklin & Marshall plays at Washington on Saturday. Womens Golf: Muhlenberg sent three golfers to the Dickinson Invitational, held at Mayapple Golf Links. Senior Kathryn Baker tied for 12 with a 110. |
BASEBALL WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT
Sophomore Chris OConnor and two relievers combined on a three-hitter as the Muhlenberg baseball team defeated Swarthmore, 7-1, for its fourth straight win.
The win was the Mules 13th straight against the Garnet and moved them
OConnor (right) allowed two singles and struck out five in seven innings to improve his record to 5-1 and lower his ERA to 2.76. Senior Ryan White and junior Kevin Komeshok each pitched an inning to close out the game. Muhlenberg (16-11, 7-3) scored four runs without the benefit of a hit in the second innings, taking advantage of three straight walks and two Garnet (2-16-1, 2-8) errors. Sophomore Adam Sadler singled in a run in the fifth, and senior Joshua Carter capped the scoring with a two-run double in the eighth. Carter went 3-for-5 with two doubles to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and move to within three of breaking the school record for career hits. |
