LACROSSE THROWS SCARE INTO NO. 11 DREW

The Muhlenberg lacrosse team played even with 11th-ranked Drew for three-quarters of the game before falling, 15-8.

The Mules (3-10), who trailed by three goals early in the first half, were down only 4-2 at halftime and tied the score at 6-6 on a goal by junior Sarah Bowman with 15:09 to play in the second half. But the Rangers (11-2) reeled off the next five goals in a span of 3:26 to take control.

Freshman Diana Bleakley made 20 saves for her third 20-save game of the season, setting a school record with 222 stops for the season.

Senior Teresa Lunardi scored three goals to lead Muhlenberg. Junior Lynsey Caldwell recorded her school-record 18th assist of the season.

WOMEN’S TENNIS MOVES CLOSER TO TITLE

The Muhlenberg women’s tennis team tied the school record for wins in a season and kept its Centennial Conference title hopes alive by edging Haverford, 5-4.

The Mules (11-1, 8-1) are tied for first place in the CC with Washington, a 6-3 winner against Bryn Mawr. Each team has one league match remaining, against Dickinson – Washington on Saturday and Muhlenberg next Wednesday. If both teams win, they will be co-champions.

A three-set win by senior Jennifer Chung at third singles keyed the win for the Mules, who won two of three doubles matches. Sophomores Sarah Niebler and Megan Schreiber teamed up for a win at third doubles and also won their singles matches. Sophomore Gena Ross won at doubles but suffered her first singles loss of the season.

The Mules previously won 11 matches in 1986, 1987 and 2001.
