SPRINGFEST SET FOR SATURDAY
WOMEN’S TENNIS EARNS RANKING

The Muhlenberg women’s tennis team is ninth in the Division III South Atlantic Region, according to rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Curiously, the Mules (11-1) are ranked behind Washington, whom they defeated, and ahead of Johns Hopkins, to whom they lost.

Muhlenberg is currently tied for first place in the Centennial Conference with Washington. Each team has one CC match remaining. Five of the 11 teams in the league are ranked in the top 15 in the region:

Prizes Giveaways at Lacrosse Game; Baseball and Softball to Face Contenders

Although Mother Nature seems to have skipped right to summer, Muhlenberg College will sponsor “SpringFest” at the women’s lacrosse game against Western Maryland on Saturday.

The Mules’ final home game of the 2002 season will feature a halftime shootout on the turf at Scotty Wood Stadium. At stake are gift certificates donated by the following places:

• Applebee’s
• Carrabba’s
• Paese Mio
• General’s Quarters
• Java Joe’s

Game time is 1:00.

Two other Muhlenberg teams will be playing home doubleheaders on Saturday against teams ahead of them in the Centennial Conference standings.

Baseball hosts Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 in a matchup between two of the four teams that have separated themselves at the top of the CC standings. Johns Hopkins is in first place with a 12-1 league mark, followed by F&M (11-2), Ursinus (10-3) and Muhlenberg (9-4). Western Maryland and Haverford are tied for fifth, four games behind the Mules with five CC games to play. Hopkins and F&M have already clinched berths for the first CC Tournament; Ursinus and Muhlenberg could on Friday.

Softball hosts Western Maryland in a 3:00 twinbill at DeSales. The four teams that qualified for the CC Tournament last year are bunched atop the standings, Western Maryland at 10-0, Muhlenberg and Gettysburg at 10-2 and Ursinus at 8-2. With the exception of Muhlenberg and Gettysburg, all still have to play each other, so the seedings for next weekend’s playoffs are still very much in doubt. Western Maryland won the regular-season title last year, but the Mules captured the tournament to win their second straight CC championship.
