 May 24: Hayes 15th in javelin. Senior Jim Hayes placed 15th
in the javelin at the NCAA Track & Field Championships, held at Macalester
College in St. Paul, Minn. Hayes, who was seeded 16th, finished seventh in
his flight with a throw of 180 feet, 1 inch. Brian Black of Middlebury won
the event at 221-4. Hayes was the first male athlete to represent
Muhlenberg at the national meet in a field event.
