Rain abbreviated the first week of CC play, as only Haverford and Franklin & Marshall got all four games in (both went 3-1). Haverford swept Ursinus, 7-0 and 5-2, during the week, then split with McDaniel on Saturday ... Every team already has at least one CC loss with the exception of Johns Hopkins, a 13-3 winner against Gettysburg.

The entire “Opening Day” CC slate was wiped out by rain on Saturday. Ursinus (10-4), Gettysburg (7-3), Washington (8-4), Franklin & Marshall (6-3) and McDaniel (4-3) all have winning records.

Washington (5-2, 3-0) snapped Gettysburg’s 36-game CC regular-season winning streak with a 9-8 win at Gettysburg. The Shoremen join undefeated Franklin & Marshall (8-0) and McDaniel (7-0) atop the CC standings. Dickinson (4-4, 1-2), the next opponent for the Mules, edged Haverford, 9-8. Ursinus (2-3, 0-3) played one low-scoring game, dropping a 4-2 decision to Swarthmore (4-4, 1-2), and one high-scoring game, defeating Cazenovia, 26-8.

Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg and Washington all registered wins on Saturday to remain undefeated in the Conference. Washington, which recorded its first-ever shutout (17-0 against Bryn Mawr), and Gettysburg are both 8-0 overall. Haverford moved to 2-1 with impressive wins against Bryn Mawr (18-2) and Dickinson (17-6).

The Muhlenberg women’s lacrosse team set three school records and tied two others in defeating Cedar Crest, 24-7, to even its record at 4-4.

The game began in a heavy snowstorm that blanketed the Scotty Wood Stadium turf in white. The start of the game also featured a flurry of goals – 10 in the first eight minutes as the Mules jumped out to an 8-2 lead.

When it was all over, Muhlenberg tied the school record for goals in a game, set in a 24-4 win against Widener in 1987, and set school records for goals in a half (15) and assists in a game (13). The previous assists record of 11 was set just five days earlier against Dickinson.

Freshman Courtney Tapkas continued her scoring surge, recording six goals on her 19th birthday. She assisted on three other goals to set a school record for most points in a game (nine) by a freshman. Tapkas, who also had six caused turnovers and five draw controls, is just five away from the school record of 36 goals by a freshman.

Senior Lynsey Caldwell tied the school record she set in the Dickinson game with five assists. She needs two more assists to break her own school record of 19 assists in a season, set last year.

Freshman Shannon Donohue notched her third hat trick with four goals. Eleven of the 14 field players who saw action in the game scored goals.

With seven games remaining in the regular season, Muhlenberg has matched its win total from all of last year.
