MULE BATS STAY AS HOT AS WEATHER
Joel Rush

Junior DH Joel Rush smacked a two-run double in the third and began the six-run eighth by drawing a walk. He is hitting .333 with six RBI in four games.

The Muhlenberg baseball team scored seven runs in the final two innings in defeat Madonna, 13-7, in the 90-degree heat of Homestead, Fla. In improving to 3-1, the Mules reached double digits in runs for the third time in four games.

Muhlenberg was held to three hits over the first six innings and trailed, 6-5, entering the bottom of the seventh, but chose to die another day.

The Mules tied the score in the seventh on an RBI single by junior Adam Sadler and took a 7-6 lead later that inning when senior Justin Rubenstein was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Muhlenberg added some breathing room the following inning with a six-run rally that featured back-to-back doubles by sophomore Matt Long and senior Justin Graf in addition to four stolen bases.

First-year relief pitchers Chad Hegstrom and Matt Cooper were outstanding late in the game. Hegstrom pitched out of jams in both the sixth and seventh to earn his first career win. Cooper pitched a 1-2-3 eighth before allowing an unearned run in the ninth, getting credit for a save.
