KOMESHOK TIES SAVES RECORD IN MULES’ FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

CALDWELL NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior Lynsey Caldwell of the Muhlenberg women’s lacrosse team has been named player of the week by the Centennial Conference. Caldwell was honored after scoring two goals and dishing out five assists in the Mules’ 16-4 defeat of Swarthmore on Saturday — their first win against the Garnet in 10 years. The five assists tied a school record set by Caldwell twice previously this season. Caldwell, who was Muhlenberg’s career assists leader when the season started, is putting some distance on the rest of the pack. With five games remaining, she already has broken her own school record for assists in a season (26) to become the 11th player in CC history with 75 assists in a career. Caldwell has 17 assists in five CC games.

Senior Kevin Komeshok retired the last six batters of the game to tie the school record for career saves (11) and finish off the Muhlenberg baseball team’s fourth straight win, 6-3 against Haverford. Komeshok came in to start the eighth and breezed through two 1-2-3 Komeshok’s 11 saves tie the school record held by Dave Sonnenberg (1988-91) and Mark Majewski (1981-83). innings, striking out three batters for his fourth save of the season. The Mules (16-8, 7-4) had a lead for him to protect largely because of the performance of Justin Graf. The senior went 3-for-4 with his first home run of the season, three RBI and four stolen bases. Muhlenberg jumped ahead by scoring two unearned runs in the bottom of the second. Freshman Matt Tobia lined a two-out, two-strike pitch into right-center to drive in the first run, and Graf’s infield single up the middle brought in the second. In the fourth, Tobia walked with one out and trotted around the bases when Graf parked one over the left-field fence for his eighth career home run. Senior Justin Rubenstein followed with a triple, and senior Ben Carr drove him in with a double to make it 5-0. The Fords (12-10-1, 6-6) chipped away by scoring twice in the fifth and once in the sixth. Graf nearly had his second home run leading off the bottom of the sixth, but his mammoth drive down the left-field line was foul by inches. Instead he walked, stole second and third, and came around when Carr’s fly ball was dropped. Sophomore Aaron Regensburg worked the first seven innings to improve to 3-0 in Centennial Conference games this season. Click here for line score.
