![]() A weekly look at whats going on in the Centennial Conference:
Gettysburg defeated Scranton, 18-11, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Amherst, 12-5 ... The ECAC Tournament featured an All-CC final, with Franklin & Marshall toppling Washington for the third time this season, 15-6.
Franklin & Marshall advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals with a 13-12 overtime win at Lynchburg. The CC champion, Washington, fell to Hampden-Sydney, 10-8.
Johns Hopkins received the second seed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional and will open up against Alvernia. Rowan is the top seed for the regional, which takes place at Boyertown, Pa. |
Sarno Named To All-Tournament Team
Sarno hit .412 (7-for-17) from her leadoff position as the Mules split four games at the regional. She scored four runs and drove in one. Salisbury captured the regional by winning the final four games, one each against Muhlenberg and Ramapo and two against Moravian. ========================= Gallagher Breaks Steeple Record Again: Several members of the Muhlenberg track team competed at Villanovas Tuppeny Twilight Invitational, the final scheduled meet before the NCAA Championships. Senior Brendan Gallagher finished 10th in the steeplechase in a hand-timed 9:55.2, breaking the school record for the third straight week. Senior Will Elson ran an NCAA-provisional 1:53.03 in the 800, placing seventh, but he had a better time (1:52.17) earlier this season. Elson (800 and 1,500) and sophomore John Brodowski (decathlon) are the two Mules who have qualified provisionally for the NCAA meet. They will find out if they have been selected next Monday. |
