Muhlenberg has placed three of its women’s lacrosse players on the All-Centennial Conference team.

Lynsey Caldwell and Sarah Bowman, the Mules’ two seniors, were named to the second team, while freshman Courtney Tapkas earned honorable mention.

Caldwell ranked second in the CC with a school-record 36 assists in 15 games. She also scored 21 goals. Caldwell, who also holds the school records for assists in a career (85) and game (five), finished her career as the program’s third all-time leading scorer with 177 points.

Bowman had 24 goals and 14 assists in 2003 while leading Muhlenberg in ground balls (77), draw controls (39) and caused turnovers (35). She is the team’s all-time leader in the three latter categories and ranks eighth with her 101 points.

Tapkas was the second-leading goal-scorer in the CC with a school-record 73 goals, which also broke the conference record for freshmen. She averaged five goals in the nine CC games and set a school record with 84 points.

Muhlenberg had its best season ever in 2003, finishing 8-7 to set a school record for wins.

Earning first-team honors were senior Kelly Berg (first base) and juniors Kate Dischino (catcher), Becki Toth (shortstop) and Nicole Sarno (outfield).

Berg made the All-CC first team after three straight years on the second team. She hit .396 in CC games and .295 with two home runs and 16 RBI in all games. Berg tied for the team lead in homers and stolen bases (six), led the Mules with 10 sacrifices and made only three errors all season. She finished her career sixth on the program’s all-time list in hits (127) and seventh in runs scored (73).

Dischino took over as Muhlenberg’s everyday catcher midway through the season and hit .286 with a home run and 10 RBI. She batted .343 in CC games and also contributed outstanding defense, making no errors in league games and only two overall.

Toth, an All-CC first-team selection in 2001, made a successful return from a knee injury that sidelined her for most of last season. She led the Mules with a .359 batting average, including a .463 mark in CC games. Toth also had team highs in hits (46), doubles (eight) and slugging percentage (.453) while driving in 15 runs. She will enter her senior season tied for 10th on the team’s all-time list with 110 career hits.

Sarno moved up after making the All-CC second team last year and earning honorable mention as a freshman. The sparkplug of the Muhlenberg offense from her leadoff position, Sarno hit .292 in 2003 and led the team with 27 runs scored. In CC action, she batted .316 with 17 runs scored in 16 games.

Junior Amanda Ibey (second base) was voted to the All-CC second team. She hit .370 in CC regular-season games and belted two home runs in the league tournament. Ibey finished with a .286 batting average and 17 RBI.

The Mules (16-21) won their third CC title in four years and finished fourth at the NCAA East Regional.
