After a day off in Florida, the Muhlenberg baseball team returned to
Junior Matthew Long continued his torrid hitting, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and driving in three runs. Senior Adam Sadler tied a career high with four RBI on two two-run singles, and freshman Pete Oris also knocked in three runs. Junior Aaron Regensburg and sophomore Brian LaRochelle each smacked three singles, and sophomore Matt Tobia got into the act by hitting his first career home run. The offense was more than enough for junior Gregg Burkhart, who pitched a complete-game six-hitter, striking out nine, for his first win of the season. The Mules (4-3) broke the game open early, scoring six runs in the top of the second. After singles by LaRochelle and Regensburg and a hit batsman loaded the bases with nobody out, Sadler ground a single through the middle for two runs. A third run scored on a wild pitch,
A run-scoring groundout by Oris and an RBI single by LaRochelle made it 8-0 in the top of the fourth. The Seahawks (2-5) got the runs back on a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but Tobia belted the first pitch of the fifth over the fence in left field to extend Muhlenbergs lead to 9-2. Sadlers second two-run single capped a four-run sixth. The game was stopped due to the 10-run rule after the Mules scored three more runs in the top of the seventh. |
