The Muhlenberg womens tennis team had its shutout streak and winning
streak snapped at three with a 7-2 loss at 30th-ranked Mary Washington.
The match was the Mules third in the last 12 days against a team ranked in the national top 30, and their fourth in that span against a team ranked in the top 15 in the Atlantic South Region. Muhlenberg, ranked 11th in the region, is 2-2 so far against the regionally ranked opponents and has two more on the schedule. The poll at left was conducted following the fall season. The first rankings of the spring are scheduled to be published on April 16. Mary Washington (7-5), which has been to the NCAAs five straight years, swept the doubles, all in close matches. At No. 2, senior Mackenzie Parke and freshman Pam Kimmelman suffered their first loss after eight straight wins. Kimmelman came back to win at No. 4 singles, one of two victories for the Mules (6-3). The other came at No. 1, where sophomore Amy Schmidt posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the 22nd-ranked player in the region. Schmidt is 5-0 when playing at first singles this year. |
