Brodowski won the decathlon at the Muhlenberg Multi, a meet put together earlier in the week, with 6,127 points. Seven Mule athletes and two from DeSales participated in the two-day event. Brodowski, who placed 13th in the decathlon at the 2003 NCAA Championships, had yet to complete a decathlon this year due to injuries. His score eclipsed the provisional qualifying standard of 6,000. Entering the weekend, only nine Division III athletes had posted higher marks than Brodowskis 6,127, and only one had made the automatic standard of 6,550. Junior Harry Kegelman came in second with 4,638, followed by several first-time decathletes who acquitted themselves very well. Seniors Joshua Boyer (4,381) and Ben Phillips (4,315) and junior Calvin Tintle (4,029) became the fourth, fifth and sixth athletes in program history to top the 4,000-point mark. Seiler traveled to State College to compete in the 400 hurdles at the Penn State Open and broke her own school record with a time of 64.04. Before todays meets, 16 women had met the Division III provisional standard of 64.30. Seiler will have a chance to improve her standing at next weekends ECAC Championships. Muhlenberg has qualified three athletes for the NCAAs: Brodowski, Seiler and freshman Sarah Mitchell (javelin). The NCAA Championships are scheduled for May 27-29 at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. |
