Mary Washington is ranked 28th in Division III and seventh in the Atlantic South region. Salisbury is 10th in the region. The Mules (3-2) do not appear in the rankings because they did not play a fall schedule. Against Mary Washington, Muhlenberg led 4-3 with two matches left on the court. The Eagles won both in three sets, including one in which the Mules were up one set and 4-1 in the second set. Muhlenberg came back to topple Salisbury in convincing fashion, winning all eight completed matches, including four of five singles matches in straight sets. Junior Amy Schmidt and senior Emily Oster both went 4-0 on the day, with Schmidt continuing to dominate her opponents. She won 6-1, 6-0 against Mary Washington and 6-0, 6-3 against a Salisbury player ranked 28th in the region. Schmidt has dropped a total of five games in winning her first five singles contests this spring, extending her winning streak in dual matches to 15. In the Salisbury match, Schmidt teamed up with freshman Ashley Reed to defeat the 16th-ranked doubles team in the region. |
