The Muhlenberg womens tennis team rebounded from its first Centennial
Conference loss in two years to defeat Bryn Mawr, 8-1, in a home outdoor
match.
The Mules (4-3, 2-1) are in a six-match stretch in which five of the opponents are ranked in the top 11 in the Atlantic South Region. The Owls (1-2, 1-1) are the lone exception, but they came in having defeated McDaniel by the same 7-2 score that Muhlenberg did. The team of sophomore Pam Kimmelman and senior Emily Oster won the key doubles match at No. 2, taking the last three games for an 8-4 victory. Junior Amy Schmidt and freshman Ashley Reed improved to 5-0 with an 8-1 win at first doubles. For the first time this year, the Mules swept the singles matches. All the players won in straight sets with the exception of freshman No. 6 Jacquelyn Magner, who came back after dropping the first set and fought off two match points in the supertiebreaker to score her first career win in a marathon, 4-6, 7-5, (11-9). Schmidt continued her strong singles play with her third 6-0, 6-0 win of the season. She has dropped only eight games in her seven singles matches. The win extended Muhlenbergs homecourt winning streak to 27. |
Junior Stacy Lipschutz earned her third singles win of the season, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 |
