Competing for the first time in 10 days, the Muhlenberg mens golf team finished 11th out of 19 teams at the Tom Ruggieri Invitational, hosted by Widener at Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown, Del. Senior Matthew Schoenfeld tied for 29th out of 94 golfers with an 83. |
On the same day the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association spring
rankings were released, the Muhlenberg womens tennis team defeated
Dickinson, 9-0, for its sixth straight win and second straight Centennial
Conference shutout.
The Mules (9-3, 6-1) are ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region, matching their final ranking of a year ago. Muhlenberg is just behind two teams it lost 5-4 matches to (Mary Washington and Swarthmore) and just ahead of a team it defeated 5-4 (Franklin & Marshall). Junior Amy Schmidt is ranked sixth in the region for singles, and she showed why against Dickinson, winning 6-0, 6-0 for the fifth time this spring. Schmidt, who ended the 2004 season ranked 14th in the region, is 12-0 for the year and has dropped more than one game in only three of the 24 sets. The Mules undefeated No. 1 doubles team of Schmidt and freshman Ashley Reed is 10th in the region and notched its 10th straight win with an 8-1 victory against the Red Devils. Reed also extended her personal singles winning streak to six, improving her combined record to 19-3. No national rankings were released. |
