WOMEN’S LACROSSE
The Dickinson women’s lacrosse team overcame an early deficit to hand Muhlenberg a tough overtime loss, 16-12, and spoil a record-setting day by junior Courtney Tapkas.

Tapkas intercepted a clearing pass by the Red Devil goalie with just under three minutes remaining in regulation and drove in to score the game-tying goal. It was the 159th goal of her career, making her the Mules’ all-time leader.

The Red Devils (9-4, 5-3), however, scored all four goals in overtime to clinch a Centennial Conference playoff berth.

The Mules (7-6, 3-5) were in control early and had a 6-2 lead only 12:31 into the game. Muhlenberg led by three, 9-6, at halftime.

Junior Shannon Donohue scored three times, and junior Steph Light had two goals, an assist, five groundballs and three draw controls.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Despite a 47-24 advantage in shots, the Muhlenberg men’s lacrosse team lost to Swarthmore, 14-9.

Muhlenberg (7-6, 0-5) led 4-1 after one quarter, but the Garnet ran off the next seven goals. After the Mules broke the run, Swarthmore added two more goals in the final 35 seconds of the third to take a 10-5 lead.

Freshman Mickey Norton had two assists to set the Mules’ single-season record with 24.

MEN’S GOLF
Sophomore Patrick Moyle shot an 83 as the Muhlenberg men’s golf team came in fourth place at the Lehigh Valley Cup in its final tuneup before the Centennial Conference Championships.

Moyle’s score was four shots better than when he shot an 87 at the Lehigh Country Club at the Muhlenberg Fall Invitational.

Muhlenberg was down 1-0 in the second inning of the nightcap but came back to tie the score in the bottom half of the frame on a run-scoring single by sophomore Nicole Washburn.

In the fifth, senior Becki Toth led off with a single to left, and sophomore Katie Olson’s sacrifice bunt moved her to second base with one out. One out later, and after a passed ball allowed Toth to go to third, DeFrain lined a single to right-center to give Muhlenberg a 2-1 lead.

The lead held up because of the pitching of Washburn, who got out of jams in each of the last three innings to earn her fifth win of the season. The Falcons had six at-bats with a runner in scoring position from the fifth to the seventh innings but were not able to muster a hit off the Mules’ hurler. She induced a fly ball to right field to end the game, stranding the game-tying run at third. Washburn allowed only four hits and struck out one.

Through the first two innings of the first game, Muhlenberg was down 1-0 and had been retired on five groundballs and a strikeout. The Mules finally struck through with a three-run third inning. Muhlenberg loaded the bases, and with two outs, sophomore Tina Roth roped a double just past the diving Falcon centerfielder to plate three runs.

Muhlenberg added another run in the fourth on an RBI double by junior Kristina Cartolano. Junior Lindsay Ruhling and sophomore Hilary Marinchak had run-scoring hits in the sixth inning.

Freshman Katie Vecchione pitched the first four innings, and senior Ally Ogden went the final three to earn the save in the opener.
