TWO NAMED TO DISTRICT ACADEMIC TRACK TEAM
Two Muhlenberg College student-athletes, Christopher Martin and
Jason
Finkelstein, have been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District II College Division Mens Track & Field/Cross Country
Team.
Both will move onto the national ballot for Academic All-America
consideration. The Academic All-America teams are scheduled to be
announced on June 21.
District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA
Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District
of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be
nominated for the team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore
with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant
reserve on his team.
Martin, who graduated with a double major in chemistry and philosophy, was
a member of both the track and field and cross country teams. In track, he
earned a gold medal and helped set a school record as a member of the
4x800-meter relay team at the 2005 ECAC Indoor Championships. He also beat
the previous school record in the steeplechase and placed seventh in the
steeple at the Centennial Conference Championships in both 2004 and 2005.
Martin served as a team captain in cross country and had his best season
as a senior, finishing second among Muhlenberg runners at the NCAA Mideast
Regional.
Finkelstein, a rising senior and political science major with a double
minor in economics and history, was one of the top relay runners for the
Mules in 2005. He earned places as a member of all four relay teams at the
CC Indoor Championships (third in 4x400 and distance medley, fourth in
4x800 and sixth in 4x200) and was part of the DMR team that finished fifth
at the ECAC Championships. Finkelstein ran on the fourth-place 4x800 team
at the CC outdoor meet and earned a bronze medal by finishing third in
4x400
at 2004 CC Indoor Championships.
