SCHMITT NAMED MEN’S TENNIS COACH
Capobianco to Coach Cheer Team

Two Muhlenberg College alumni have returned to their alma mater as head coaches for the 2005-06 school year.

Jeff Schmitt Jeff Schmitt, a 1969 graduate of Muhlenberg, is the new head men’s tennis coach. He replaces George Henry, who resigned earlier this summer.

A four-year letterwinner during his collegiate days with the Mules, Schmitt has served as a professional at Oakmont Tennis Club since 1994. He also was a professional at the academy run by former Muhlenberg head coach Bill Adams from 1999 to 2003. He was responsible for junior tennis programs at both places.

Schmitt holds a professional level certificate from the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR).

Schmitt has more than 20 years of coaching experience, most of it in soccer. After a year as head coach of the Pennridge High School boys tennis team in 1976, he coached soccer at Emmaus High School from 1977 to 1993 and at Allentown College from 1994 to 1999. A retired social studies teacher in the East Penn School District, he has directed the Camp Olympic Soccer Clinic since 1992.

Schmitt earned a master’s degree from Lehigh University in 1984.

A more recent alum alum, Lindsay Capobianco, has been named head cheer team coach. She graduated in 2004 with two varsity letters in cheerleading and one in track and field.

Capobianco danced all four years at the ’Berg and was a member of the improvisational dance group that traveled locally to perform. Since last August, she has worked as a behavioral management specialist at Trexler Middle School in Allentown.
