Ferrigno Ties Record in Softball Split |
|
Four-Run Rallies Key in Both Games
Freshman RiRi Ferrigno doubled in each game to tie the school record of 13 two-baggers in a season as the Muhlenberg softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Messiah. The Mules (15-15) won the opener, 5-3, but had their seven-game winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss in the nightcap. Muhlenberg broke on top with four runs in the third inning of Game 1. With one out, junior Hilary Marinchak reached on catchers interference and stole her ninth base of the season. Freshman Samantha Crist singled her to third. A single by junior Tina Roth brought in Marinchak, and Ferrigno followed with a two-run double to center. Freshman Michelle Consiglio capped the rally with an RBI single to right. Crist reached on a bunt single and scored on Ferrignos single in the seventh for an important insurance run. The Falcons (18-14), who scored the first run allowed by the Mule pitching staff in 28 innings in the sixth, added two more in the seventh before junior Nicole Washburn got the final out, sewing up her fifth win in a row. Muhlenberg took a 2-1 lead in the second game, but Messiah plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth. |
BASEBALL Muhlenberg was held hitless for the first five innings and dropped the first of two crucial games with Dickinson, 15-3. The Mules (15-13, 8-5) entered the day a half-game ahead of the Red Devils (14-15-1, 7-3-1) for the fourth and final playoff spot. The two teams play again at Dickinson on Friday. Freshman Eric Hammond, who broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the sixth, added a two-run single in the seventh.
MENS GOLF Sophomore Garrett Carpenter and freshman Bill Snow carded 76 and 77, respectively, for the Mules, who were just one stroke behind Moravian and seven behind Lafayette.
WOMENS GOLF The Mules trailed two teams from higher divisions (Lehigh and Kutztown) and two from the Centennial Conference (Gettysburg and Dickinson). With a team score of 426, Muhlenberg was nine strokes behind Dickinson. Junior Kristen Amore shot a 98. |
Senior Adam Nodiff and freshman Brian Wernick won together
at No. 1 doubles and individually in their singles matches to lead the
Muhlenberg mens tennis team to its second Centennial Conference win
of the season, 4-3 at Ursinus.
The Mules (4-5, 2-4) also got a doubles win from the No. 3 freshman team of Andrew Brick and Ryan Paskin and a singles win at No. 4 from sophomore James Goldman.
![]() Nodiff is 3-1 since moving into the No. 1 singles spot. He and Wernick are 3-0 at first doubles. |
