For the third year in a row, the Muhlenberg womens basketball team has been named to the Womens Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes the nations highest team grade-point averages for the
2005-06 academic year based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member head coaches. GPAs are calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by each student-athlete on an institutions squad list in the given academic terms by the total number of hours earned by the team.
Muhlenberg tied for ninth in Division III with a team GPA of 3.467, moving up from 24th in 2004 and 18th last year. The Mules are one of seven institutions to make the Honor Roll each of the last three seasons.
All but three of the 16 team members had at least a 3.0 GPA in both the Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 terms, and four managed a perfect 4.0 semester. Three players made the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for having a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher.
The team showed its smarts on the court as well, going 26-3, winning the Centennial Conference championship and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Muhlenberg joined Maryville (Mo.), Puget Sound and Simpson as the only four schools to make the Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll and win an NCAA Tournament game. |
