The Muhlenberg mens lacrosse team scored seven fourth-quarter goals to pull away from Greensboro and capture its opening game of the new season, 15-8. Junior Kyle Farris, sophomore Andrew Lolley and senior Sean Toohill led the offense with three goals apiece, with Farris adding two assists for a career-high five points. (corrected 3/12/07) The Mules took a while to get going, as the Pride (0-2) scored just 53 seconds into the game. Farris finally got Muhlenberg into the scoring column with 4:14 left in the first quarter, and Lolley and junior Mickey Norton scored goals 23 seconds apart to stake the visitors to a 3-1 lead. Freshman Paul Munday scored his first career goal 29 seconds into the third quarter, giving the Mules an 8-2 lead. Greensboro cut the margin in half by scoring the next three goals, and the game headed into the final quarter 8-5. The teams were still three goals apart before Muhlenberg netted five goals in the last 7:52. The Mules scored on seven of their 11 shots in the fourth quarter, with three goals coming on extra-man opportunities. |
