The Mules (2-3) held leads in both games against the Griffins (5-0), a team that was selected for the NCAA Tournament last year. The twin losses spoiled a milestone night for senior Mike Hart, whose single up the middle in the second inning of Game 2 was the 100th hit of his career. Muhlenberg came back from a 5-2 deficit to take a 10-5 lead in the fourth inning of the opener, only to have Gwynedd-Mercy score the games final eight runs, with five coming in the bottom of the sixth. The Mules jumped on top with three runs in the first inning of Game 2, the last coming on the teams second straight steal of home in as many days, this one by junior Joe Carlo. The Griffins came back to tie, then scored six runs in the fifth. Senior Ryan Sassaman had three hits in the first game, and classmate Pete Oris singled three times in the nightcap. |
