The Ursinus baseball team scored eight runs in the final three innings to overcome a 6-1 deficit and defeat Muhlenberg, 9-6.

The Mules (7-18, 3-9), who did the coming from behind in Wednesday’s loss to the Bears (20-9, 10-4), jumped on top this time, scoring a run in the top of the first on an RBI single by senior Mike Hart.

After Ursinus tied the score, Muhlenberg scored five runs in the middle three innings. Sophomore Christian Conti singled in a run in the fourth, sophomore Chris Costa hit a two-run single in the fifth, and freshman Eric Pomroy belted an RBI double in the sixth. Freshman Dan Fisher, who raised his average to .475 with a 4-for-5 day, added an RBI single in the fifth.

The Bears drew even with four runs in the seventh on three walks, two singles and two sacrifice flies, then scored three in the eighth, with the two go-ahead runs coming in on an error.

Freshman Phil Cresta worked the first six innings, allowing two runs on only three hits.

Kimberly Snyder Snyder Takes Early Lead at Kutztown

Freshman Kimberly Snyder of the Muhlenberg women’s golf team took the early lead at the Kutztown Spring Invitational, shooting a seven-over-par 81 in the first of two rounds.

The Mules were fifth out of six complete teams (ahead of Division II West Chester) with a school-record team score of 374. Their previous best was 375 at the 2005 Dickinson Invitational.

Snyder (right) paced a field of 41 golfers, including 17 from Division I and 11 from Division II. Two Division I competitors, one from St. Francis (Pa.) and the other from Mount St. Mary’s, were a stroke behind.

The tournament is being played at Berkleigh Country Club, which was home to the LPGA’s Betsy King Classic for many years.
