Baseball Drops Fourth Straight

The Muhlenberg baseball team wasted a strong effort by freshman Phil Cresta and lost at Dickinson, 4-1.

Cresta tossed a complete-game four-hitter, allowing only one earned run. A bad-hop single plated two unearned runs in the second, and another scored on a balk in the third.

The Mules (4-13, 1-4) scored their lone run after loading the bases with nobody out in the eighth. Senior A.J. Bettini led off the inning with his third single of the game and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Mike Hart. The next two batters struck out, and Muhlenberg went down in order in the ninth.

The Muhlenberg women’s lacrosse team put up a good fight against No. 2 Franklin & Marshall and even held a lead in the first half but was unable to steal a win. With the 19-9 loss, the Mules are still looking for their first-ever victory against the Diplomats.

After allowing F&M (10-0, 4-0) to take a 3-1 lead to start the game, Muhlenberg turned the tables. The Mules scored three in a row to take over the advantage, 4-3, with 13:43 left in the first. Freshman Amanda McGovern scored one of her team-high three goals in that stretch, making this the second game in a row that she has recorded a hat trick.

The game was tied 5-5 with 7:39 left in the half. The Diplomats then scored the next four goals to take the lead for good.

Sophomore Ruth Morrongiello opened the second half with a score for Muhlenberg (7-3, 1-3) and cut the deficit to 10-7, but F&M rattled off six in a row to take a convincing 16-7 lead with 16:27 left to play.
