Senior Matt Loesch of the Muhlenberg wrestling team has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

The NCAA annually awards 174 postgraduate scholarships of $7,500 each. Loesch won one of 29 given to male athletes in all three divisions who participated in winter sports, which include basketball, fencing, gymnastics, swimming and diving, indoor track and field and wrestling.

To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.200 (on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent and must have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which the student-athlete was nominated. The student-athlete also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.

Loesch, a double major in psychology and business administration, plans to continue his studies in a Ph.D. program for industrial/organizational psychology. A five-time member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor

Roll, he was named to the Academic All-District II second team last year.

Loesch is the most accomplished wrestler in the history of the Muhlenberg program, earning All-America honors three straight years. His fourth-place finish in the 197-pound weight class in 2005 is the best ever by a Mule at the NCAA Championships. Loesch also won four Centennial Conference titles and received the 2007 Chris Clifford Award as the senior with the most career tournament points. He finished his career with a record of 90-16 and was ranked first in Division III in his weight class as a junior.

Also a two-year member of the Muhlenberg football team, Loesch was heavily involved in the life of the College apart from athletics, as executive secretary of Student Council, campus delegate, peer tutor and member of the church choir.

Loesch is the 12th NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in Muhlenberg history and the third in the last two years.
