track teams secure four gold medals at CC Championships

The Muhlenberg men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams came back from the Centennial Conference Championships with a total of four titles, one broken school record and one tied meet record.

Sophomore Jeremiah Lachaud placed seventh in the 55m dash in 6.76.

The Mule women placed fifth in the final standings, while the men took sixth place in the meet. Haverford confirmed its reputation as a track and field powerhouse, winning both titles for the third year in a row.

Familiar faces brought the individual gold medals for Muhlenberg.

After winning the trophy in the pole vault on Saturday, sophomore Alex Faust added a new victory to her account, finishing first in the 400m dash in a time of 59.55.

Sophomore Debra Crockett turned in a podium performance with her third place in the shot put with a toss of 37-8.
after placing fifth in the 200m dash in 26.74. Along with teammates Lauren Conicella, Emily Karel and Kendra Joseph, Faust crossed the line in fourth place in the 4x400m relay.

Senior Erika Koop was another Mule athlete who scored points in multiple events as she finished second in the high jump (5-1), seventh in the triple jump (32-9) and eighth in the shot put (35-).

On the men’s side, the 4x800m relay team, composed of Pat Thornton, Bob Torphy, Chris Dolan and Stuart Udis, repeated its title-winning performance from last year, finishing in a time of 7:59.53.

Udis also claimed a gold medal in the 800m run in 1:56.32, outrunning the second-place runner by almost a second.

Junior David Chorney broke his own school record in the 3000m as he finished seventh in 8:43.89, improving his previous personal best (8:45.04) by over a second.

Sophomore Brendan Kirk notched a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 400m (52.69) and the 55m hurdles (8.21).

Senior Adam Carter overcame a height of 5-11 in the high jump to place sixth.

The 4x400m relay team of Dolan, William Ryan, Torphy and Kirk gave the fifth-best time of 3:34.50.
