Two reach milestones in softball win

Baseball Doubles Up Northland

The Muhlenberg baseball team evened its record at 2-2 with a 16-8 win against Northland. The Mules are averaging 11 runs in their first four games.

Muhlenberg trailed 5-4 after three innings but scored three runs in each of the next three frames. Senior Christian Conti hit a solo home run in the fifth.

Junior Dan Fisher went 4-for-5 with a triple and drove in three runs, while junior Eric Pomroy knocked in four runs.

Conti, senior Chris Costa and sophomore Bobby Spindler all had two hits and two RBI.

Junior Mark Shive pitched three innings in relief without allowing an earned run to pick up his first career win.

Senior RiRi Ferrigno recorded her 100th career hit as the  Alyssa Bruckner Muhlenberg softball team gave new head coach Roni Rivera her first win with a 7-0 shutout of Eastern Mennonite in the second of two games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Neumann scored a run in the top of the seventh to win the first game, 7-6.

Ferrigno went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Eastern Mennonite game to become the 20th player in team history to reach the century mark.

Sophomore Ashley Brewer was 4-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs to support the pitching of classmate Alyssa Bruckner (left), who scattered nine hits for her first career shutout.

Senior Samantha Crist, sophomore Jess Kasza and freshman Maggie Scarpelli all contributed two singles to Muhlenberg’s season-high total of 14 hits.

The Mules (1-3) tied a school record with three triples (by Ferrigno, Brewer and Kasza) in the Neumann game.
