Muhlenberg battled Moravian, the second-ranked team in the East Region, but came out on the short end in both games of the doubleheader, 5-1 and 3-2.

In the first game, the Mules (17-14) faced an early 2-0 deficit. They scored one run in the third and got the tying run into scoring position in each of the next two innings, but could not push it across. The Greyhounds (29-9) put the game away with three in the fifth.

Muhlenberg did climb out of a 2-0 hole in the nightcap, plating runs on two-out hits by senior Samantha Crist and sophomore Jess Kasza in the fourth and fifth. Moravian won on a walkoff single with one out in the seventh.

Crist doubled in each game.

Washington completed the field for the four-team Centennial Conference playoffs by defeating Muhlenberg, 6-3. Sophomore Sara Sutker contributed to two of the Mules’ three wins.

Johns Hopkins has clinched the CC regular-season title and will host the playoffs next weekend. Muhlenberg, Washington and Haverford all have two losses and are trying to avoid the fourth seed, which would mean a first-round matchup against Hopkins.

Matthew Ordog

their third straight win, 6-4 at Landmark Conference regular-season champion Susquehanna.

Senior Edward Risener became the 37th member of the Muhlenberg 100-hit club when he singled with one out and one on in the top of the fourth. The Mules (14-20-1) trailed 2-0 at the time, but an error and a bases-loaded walk to the next two batters made it 2-1, and sophomore Bobby Spindler followed with a single to left to give Muhlenberg a 3-2 lead.

Junior Dan Fisher led off the fifth with his 13th double of the season, tying the school record set three years ago by senior John Kalis, who drove in a run later in the inning. Junior Eric Pomroy also singled in a run, and Risener capped the Mules’ second straight three-run inning with an RBI double.

Sophomore Jason Daniels settled down after allowing two runs in the first and held the Crusaders (21-13) to one run over the next five innings. After giving up a run in the seventh, he handed the ball to senior Mike Misciagna, who recorded the final out of the inning and started a 1-6-3 double play to work out of a jam in the eighth.

Senior Matthew Ordog pitched a scores ninth to earn the save.
