tennis teams sweep in cc finales
The men kicked things off by edging the Bullets, 5-4, and the women followed with a 9-0 shutout. In the men’s match, freshman Zach Adler won the two most important contests. He teamed up with classmate Jordan Rutt for a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles, sending the Mules into singles play with a 2-1 lead. At No. 2 singles, he came back from a set down to win in three sets, giving Muhlenberg its fifth point and the win.
Adler and Rutt finished 4-5 at No. 1 doubles in the tough CC. Rutt improved his team-best singles mark to 7-5 with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph at No. 3.
The women posted their third shutout of the season and clinched the third seed in next weekend’s CC playoffs at Johns Hopkins. The Mules will play Washington, which handed them their only loss in the last nine matches. The key numbers were 8 and 2, as all three doubles teams won 8-2, and Muhlenberg finished CC play with an 8-2 mark for the third time in four years.
Seniors Jenn Powell and Carly Rotfeld finished their careers 29-11 in CC dual-meet competition. Rotfeld and sophomore Sara Sutker both went 9-1 in CC matches this season, while the No. 2 doubles team of Sutker and sophomore Caitie Druker also was 9-1.
