track and field teams go the distance

Women’s Tennis Drops Second of Weekend

After losing 7-2 to regionally ranked Washington on Saturday, the Muhlenberg women’s tennis team continued south to take on a nationally ranked team. No. 16 Mary Washington swept the singles to close out an 8-1 win.

Juniors Danielle Winston and Lindsay Schmidt gave the Mules their lone point with an 8-6 win in a long match at second doubles.

Ryan Wilson The Muhlenberg track and field teams split up this weekend, with several distance runners competing at Bucknell on Friday night and the rest of the team running at Moravian in the Coach P. Open on Saturday.

At Bucknell, senior Jennifer Lynch ran in a special invitational 5,000 meters and broke her own school record, running a 17:39.00. Sophomore Nicolette Miller established a personal record in the 1,500.

Distance runners also fared well at Moravian. Senior Jayne Condon won the 5,000 with the fourth-fastest performance in school history, and junior Ryan Wilson (left) ran the fifth-fastest steeplechase in school history.

Junior Bobby Torphy placed second in the 800, and his time was good for fifth on the Mules’ performance list.
