Brewer named player of the year

Junior Ashley Brewer of the Muhlenberg softball team was named Centennial Conference player of the year.

Brewer (left) is the third Mule to be named CC player of the year and the first since 1999. She entered the week leading the CC in batting average (.430), on-base percentage (.511), slugging percentage (.684) and stolen bases (22) and was 22nd in Division III in steals.

The second baseman led the Mules with three home runs, three triples and 12 walks and added five doubles. She scored a team-high 22 runs, had 13 RBI and posted a .954 fielding percentage.

Brewer also had a strong season on the mound, going 6-6 with a 3.65 ERA. She struck out 59 in 63.1 innings pitched, held opponents to a .239 batting average and tossed a no-hitter, the eighth in school history, in the season opener.
