Season review Both teams improved their Centennial Conference standing and both produced All-Americans in an excellent year for the Mules.

July 9: Mules garner academic honors Three members of the Muhlenberg program and the entire women’s team were honored for academic excellence.

June 18: Torphy named to Academic All-America team Rising junior Bobby Torphy was selected to the Academic All-America third team.

June 5: Torphy earns academic honor Rising junior Bobby Torphy was a first-team Academic All-District selection.

May 22: Faust an All-American Junior Alex Faust (left) became the second All-American in the history of the Muhlenberg women’s program by placing seventh in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships.

May 19: NCAA preview Two Mules will be making a return trip to the national meet in the final athletic event of the 2008-09 year.

May 18: Elson wins regional coaching honor Will Elson (left) was named Mideast Region assistant coach of the year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

May 12: Thirteen named to Academic Honor Roll Seniors Amanda Martini (left) and Josh Hershman (right) were among 13 members of the Muhlenberg track and field program named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for the spring 2009 season.

May 11: Three NCAA qualifiers at Swarthmore Junior Jennifer Lynch (right) was one of three Mules to hit NCAA qualifying marks at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet.

May 3: Both Mule teams come in third Both Muhlenberg teams finished third at the Centennial Conference Championships, an improvement of two places from last year. Freshman Jenna Schaffer (left) picked up three silver medals for the women, and junior Brendan Kirk (right) bagged two golds and a bronze for the men.

May 2: Men’s 4x800 wins gold The men’s 4x800 relay team, with sophomore Bobby Torphy (left) running the anchor leg, finished first at the Centennial Conference Championships.

May 1: Faust repeats in pole vault Junior Alex Faust won the pole vault at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships for the third year in a row.

April 26: Mule teams tune up Freshman Peter Rice (right) won two events and contributed to a school record in a third as the Muhlenberg teams tuned up for the Centennial Conference Championships at the Lehigh Games.

April 23: Chorney fourth at Penn Relays Senior David Chorney (left) ran the fourth-fastest steeplechase in Division III this season, finishing fourth at the Penn Relays. He broke his own school record by more than seven seconds.

April 18: Seven ECAC qualifiers at Moravian The Muhlenberg track and field teams combined for seven ECAC qualifiers at the Greyhound Invitational. Senior Stuart Udis (right) was one of them, narrowly missing the NCAA qualifying mark in the 800.

April 14: Two earn conference honors Senior David Chorney and junior Alex Faust were honored by the Centennial Conference for their record-breaking performances at Bucknell.

April 11: One more for Faust Junior Alex Faust broke another school record and ran on two ECAC-qualifying relay teams on the second day of the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. Classmate Janelle Mentrikoski (left) ran a leg on one of the relay teams, the 4x400.

April 10: Faust breaks pole vault records Junior Alex Faust broke her own school and conference record in the pole vault at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. She was one of three Mules invited to compete among top athletes, mostly from Division I, at the meet.

April 4: Productive weekend at two meets The Mules had three school records broken and two NCAA provisional qualifiers in meets at Princeton and at home. Freshman Melissa Ugelow (right) won the 5,000 meters at the Muhlenberg Invitational.

April 3: Eleven named to Academic Honor Roll Seniors Evan Sheppard (left) and Lucy Brock (right) were among 11 members of the Muhlenberg track and field program named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for the winter 2008-09 season.

April 2: Mules make a difference over Spring Break Senior Thomas Holtz (left) was one of 14 Muhlenberg students who helped victims of Hurricane Katrina rebuild their lives as part of the Alternative Spring Break program.

March 28: Mules open outdoor season The Muhlenberg teams opened their outdoor season at the Eight-Way Meet and combined for five ECAC-qualifying performances. Junior Jeremiah Lachaud (left) and sophomore Lindsey Weidmann (right) ran on the 4x100 relay teams that accounted for two of the five.
