Both student-athletes are now on the ballot for the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, February 5.

College Division District II consists of all colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia that are not members of NCAA Division I. To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) and a starter or significant reserve on his or her team.

Vroman, a senior English major with a 3.976 GPA, was a first-team All-Centennial Conference midfielder for Muhlenberg in 2001. She recorded 11 points on three goals and five assists and was the only senior on a team that set school records for wins (19) and consecutive wins (17), won the CC championship and reached the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. A three-time All-CC selection, Vroman finished her career eighth in team history with 35 career points. She received the William M. French Award in 2001 for having the highest GPA in the education department.

Vassilaros, a junior business major with a 3.975 GPA, tied for the Mules’ team lead with six goals last fall despite being hampered by injuries. Three of his goals were game-winners. Vassilaros has 12 goals and five assists in his two years at Muhlenberg since transferring from Brigham Young, where he played on the national club championship team. In addition to his excellence on the field and in the classroom, Vassilaros is a full-time volunteer for the Church of Latter-day Saints in Allentown, where he works with teenagers in their homes and in church.

This year marks the 50th year of the Academic All-America program, which has honored more than 12,000 student-athletes. This is the first year that there is a separate team for soccer; previously, soccer was included as part of the Fall/Winter At-Large team.
