ST. LAWRENCE, BARLETTA HONORED

Muhlenberg basketball players Lindsay St. Lawrence and Michael Barletta have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team for the 2001-02 season.

Both were honored at the second Lehigh Valley College Basketball Media Organization luncheon of the season. The Scholar-Athlete Team consists of one player who excels on the court and in the classroom from each of the seven schools in the Organization.

Lindsay St. Lawrence A business major with a concentration in marketing, St. Lawrence is the second-leading scorer on the undefeated Muhlenberg women’s team, averaging 11.9 points per game. She leads the Mules in three-pointers (23) and steals (34) and is third in assists (29). St. Lawrence was named Centennial Conference player of the week after scoring a season-high 19 points in a 79-66 defeat of then-ninth-ranked Scranton.

Michael Barletta Barletta, a business administration major, is in his second year as a team captain and is averaging 8.2 points per game. He is third on the Mules in three-pointers (14), assists (31), steals (24) and blocked shots (eight). He scored a season-high 16 points in Muhlenberg’s 70-62 win against regionally ranked defending CC champion Gettysburg.

WRESTLERS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT

The Muhlenberg wrestling team won the first six bouts and cruised to its sixth consecutive win, 41-12 against Albright. The Mules (11-5) are 9-1 in the calendar year 2002.

career technical fall. He has won 14 straight matches and is 24-3 for the season.

After a pair of forfeit wins, senior Andrew Faust extended his winning streak to seven with a 6-2 decision at 165. In the most exciting bout of the match, junior 174-pounder Greg Jacobs was taken down in the first 10 seconds, but scored a quick reversal and then pinned his opponent in only 1:18. It was the second pin in the last three bouts for Jacobs.

Sophomore Bill Cummins won a decision at 184 and freshman Brian Marcotulli recorded his second pin of the season at 125.
