The Muhlenberg wrestling team won the first bout in its home opener, but
captured only one other the rest of the match and dropped a 32-9 decision
to Messiah.
Junior Nate Yeasted got the Mules off to a good start with a 6-2 win at 141. He leads the team in wins with a 14-3 record this season. The most exciting match of the night came at heavyweight, where sophomore Josh Carter trailed Michael Chess until the very last second. Carter was down 3-0 entering the third period before scoring a takedown. After Carter let Chess up, the Messiah wrestler was called for stalling to make the score 4-3. It looked like that was the way it would end, but with fewer than five seconds remaining, Carter took Chess down to his back, and the referee slapped the mat for the pin just before the buzzer sounded. Carter now has a record of 11-3. The Mules (2-4) have off until January 5, when they travel to Trinity (Conn.) for the North/South duals. |
