Men’s Basketball
After winning its Tip-Off the New Year Tournament, Franklin & Marshall suffered its first loss of the season at Goucher ... Like Muhlenberg, Johns Hopkins went 2-0 in California, setting a school record with 14 three-pointers against Bethany (Calif.) ... Dickinson won Moravian’s Greyhound Rock Classic by defeating the hosts and FDU-Madison ... Washington finished third at Villa Julie’s tournament, but Ursinus (Union), Swarthmore (Catholic) and Haverford (Christopher Newport) all went 0-2 in tournaments ... Gettysburg tuned up for Wednesday’s rematch of the 2001 CC championship game by snapping Alvernia’s eight-game winning streak.

MULES COME BACK TO WIN 10th STRAIGHT

Sophomore Susan Marchiano recorded her second consecutive double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Muhlenberg women’s basketball team came from behind to defeat DeSales, 72-62, and remain undefeated for the season.

Risley pulled down a season-high eight rebounds to go along with her 11 points.
15 games at home, the Mules (10-0) also reached double figures in victories for the 10th straight season. Six of their 10 wins have come against MAC teams. DeSales (6-3) was ranked 22nd in Division III earlier this season and is still receiving votes in the national poll.

Muhlenberg shot just 26.5 percent in the first half and trailed DeSales by seven points (20-13) with seven minutes left before intermission. The gap was four (28-24) at halftime, but the 25th-ranked Mules opened up the second half on a 17-3 run to build a 10-point lead. Marchiano scored six points and also recorded three of her five blocks during the surge.

The Bulldogs closed to within three points, at 59-56, with under four minutes remaining, but a three-pointer by senior Lindsay St. Lawrence kicked off a 13-2 run that put the game away. The Mules doubled their first-half output with 48 points in the second half.

St. Lawrence finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, while senior Jenn Risley and junior Randi Baran scored 11 apiece. Sophomore Becky Richmond pulled down 10 rebounds to help Muhlenberg to a 59-47 advantage on the boards.
