Junior Meg Malatack set a school record with seven three-pointers to lead
the Muhlenberg womens basketball team to a 97-48 win against Bryn
Mawr.
The victory lifted the Mules (17-2, 9-2) into a first-place tie with
Malatack broke the record of six set by junior Randi Baran just nine days ago. She tied the record with 1:59 left in the game and broke it with three seconds on the clock. Malatack, who scored a career-high 21 points, also set a school record by attempting 16 treys. Sophomore Becky Richmond had eight points and three steals in the first four minutes alone to help Muhlenberg sprint out to a 27-7 lead. The Mules had a 57-16 edge at halftime, just missing the school record for points in a half (59, set against Haverford in 1989-90). Baran and freshman Elizabeth Bryant, Muhlenbergs point guards, combined for 15 assists with no turnovers. Bryant scored a career-high 13 points to go along with her nine dimes, which were two shy of the school record. Sophomores Jill Friedman (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Amber Nelson (11 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded a double-double. Richmond finished with 12 points. The win extended the Mules school-record winning streak to 19 and moved them to within one of the school record for home wins in a season (11). Indoor Track: The Muhlenberg womens track and field team broke two school records at the Ursinus Invitational on Saturday, and freshman Ashlie Hankee was involved in both. Hankee ran a hand-timed 7.4 in the final of the 55 meters to break the previous school record of 7.69. In the 4x200-meter relay, she ran the lead leg of on an all-freshman team that also included Amy Ratner, Danielle Bovelle and Carolyn Schoen. Their time of 1:55.1 bested the previous mark of 1:56.00. Other notables from the meet included sophomore Joshua Boyer winning the triple jump and sophomore Frank Santini placing second in the shot put. |
