MARCHIANO NAMED CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore center Susan Marchiano of the Muhlenberg womens basketball team has been named co-player of the week by the Centennial Conference for the second time this season.
Ironically, Marchiano shared the award with the same person she did earlier in the season, Amy Abernathy of Franklin & Marshall. Marchiano entered the week ranked sixth in the CC in scoring (14.7 points per game), fourth in rebounding (9.6 rebounds per game), second in field-goal percentage (.573), third in blocked shots and tied for eighth in steals. |
WOMENS BASKETBALL WINS 18th
Sophomore Jill Friedman and freshman Gwen Doyle each tied a career high
With the win, the Mules (18-2, 10-2) clinched a playoff spot and remained tied for first place with Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference East Division. The Garnet defeated Johns Hopkins, 85-82, in double overtime. The win extended the Mules school-record home-court winning streak to 20 and gave them 11 wins at home on the season, tying the school record set in the 1999-2000 year. They need one more win to tie the school record of 19 wins in a season, set in 1995-96. Muhlenberg also made three three-pointers in the game to break the record of 105 in a season, set in 1997-98. The Mules led 7-6 early on and then held the Fords (3-17, 1-11) without a field goal for nearly seven minutes, going on a 21-2 run to take a 20-point lead. Muhlenberg led by 30 at halftime and by as many as 38 in the second half. Friedman also had a game-high nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Note: Kings, the top-ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic Region, suffered a 79-69 loss at Delaware Valley. The Mules, who are ranked second in the region, will host the Lady Monarchs on Monday. |
