Muhlenberg basketball players Gwen Doyle and Anthony Strachan were named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Month for the first month of the 2002-03 season.
Both were honored at the first Lehigh Valley College Basketball Media
Organization luncheon of the season, held at Starters Pub in
Bethlehem. The Team of the Month consists of one
Doyle, a sophomore guard, leads the Mules and ranks 10th in the Centennial Conference in scoring, averaging 12.4 points per game. She has also made a team-leading 12 three-pointers. Doyle set a career high by scoring 16 points in a 77-63 win against Juniata, then tied it two games later with 16 in a 74-62 CC win against Franklin & Marshall. Gwen has been our most consistent player this season, said Head Coach Ron Rohn. She is maybe as tenacious a defender as there is in our league. We always start our game preparation with who Gwen is going to guard, because its a good bet that person will have a miserable day..
Anthony does everything for us, remarked Head Coach Dave Madeira. He defends, plays the point, plays the 4. He is a tenacious competitor who sets the tone in practice every day. Junior Jill Friedman and senior Aaron Holden were named to the CC Weekly Honor Roll. Friedman averaged 11.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games, while Holden averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks. |
