Freshman Dale Mills and junior Brendan Barrett of the Muhlenberg
wrestling team both advanced to the
semifinals in their respective weight classes on the first day of the
Petrofes Invitational at Messiah.
A total of five Mules remained alive in the tournament, three in the consolation brackets. Muhlenberg was in sixth place out of 12 teams after Day 1. Mills, seeded fourth at 149, stormed through the early rounds of the bracket with a major decision, techincal fall and pin. Things figure to get more difficult on Saturday, as two of the other three semifinalists are ranked second and third in Division III. Barrett needed to win only one match to reach the semis. He is seeded third at heavyweight. Sophomore Jeremy Hart (133), senior Joe Salerno (157) and freshman Rafael Rodriguez (heavyweight) are in the consolation semifinals. |
