Freshman Tiffany Kirk recorded career highs of 13 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double, leading the Muhlenberg women’s basketball team to a 73-43 win at Bryn Mawr.

Equally good news came 15 miles away at Swarthmore, where Johns Hopkins posted a 69-56 win. The Mules (15-7, 11-1) now have a two-game lead in the Centennial Conference East Division over Swarthmore (16-6, 9-3) and can clinch homecourt throughout the playoffs by winning two of their remaining three games.

Kirk was just one of several freshmen who put up big numbers against the Owls (1-21, 0-13). First-year players accounted for 53 of Muhlenberg’s 73 points and 46 of its 55 rebounds. Michelle Hirst scored a career-high 13 points, becoming the 12th different Mule to score in double figures this season, and Stephanie Coluccini pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds.

Muhlenberg put the game away early, holding Bryn Mawr without a field goal for more than 10 minutes in the first half en route to opening up a 31-7 lead.

The Mules reached the 15-win mark for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
