Junior Becky Richmond recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, but the Muhlenberg women’s basketball team suffered a 51-46 loss at Swarthmore.

The Mules (15-8, 11-2) could have clinched the Centennial Conference East Division championship with a win. The Garnet (18-6, 11-3) is now only a half-game out of first, and Muhlenberg must win its final two regular-season games to clinch the title and homecourt throughout the playoffs.

The Mules took their only lead of the game, 29-28, on a basket by junior Jill Friedman with 11:55 to play, but Swarthmore went on a 15-3 run over the next seven minutes to open up an 11-point lead. Muhlenberg cut the gap to three (47-44) at the two-minute mark, but did not score again until the closing seconds.

Holden Ties Blocks Record for Second Time

Senior Aaron Holden scored a game-high 26 points and tied a school record with six blocked shots to lead the Muhlenberg men’s basketball team to a 66-58 home win against Swarthmore.

Holden made all six of his field-goal attempts in the second half and added nine rebounds for the game. He tied a school record (for the second time this year) with his six blocks, which gave him 101 for his career.

The Mules (9-13, 3-8) trailed the entire first half and did not take their first lead until senior Anthony Strachan hit a layup 1:29 into the second half. The score was tied at 41 with nine minutes left before Strachan made a free throw and a three-point play to give Muhlenberg the lead for good.

The Mules shot 57.7 percent from the field in the second half and held the Garnet (9-15, 5-7) to 36.7-percent shooting.
