MERCADO WINS 800 AT SUSQUEHANNA
SNOW WIPES OUT SATURDAY SCHEDULE

Tomorrow’s scheduled basketball doubleheader at Washington has been postponed due to the forecasted major snowstorm.

The men’s game is rescheduled for Monday, January 24. The makeup date for the women’s game is Thursday, February 3.

The wrestling team’s quad meet at Wilkes has been cancelled.

Sophomore Lex Mercado of the Muhlenberg indoor track and field team won the 800 meters at the Orange & Maroon Classic, hosted by Susquehanna.

Mercado led the whole way in a field of 42 runners, more than two full seconds ahead of the second-place runner. His time of 1:58.01, though not a personal best, was more than five seconds better than the 2:03.19 he ran at Susquehanna last year.

Mercado’s performance was one of several that indicated that the Mules are ahead of where they were at this point in 2004.

Senior Jenna Belisonzi came in second in the women’s 1,500 meters, posting the fourth-best time at that distance in team history.

Senior Ashlie Hankee posted an ECAC-qualifying time in the 55 high hurdles with one of 33 Mule performances that made this week’s Centennial Conference top-10 list.

Sophomore Rachel Drosdick established a personal best in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-0. For the second week in a row, at least three Muhlenberg women finished in the top eight in the high jump, as sophomores Jacquelyn Inverso and Katie Hesselink-Hicks and freshman Erika Koop also placed.

Back on the men’s side, junior Jason Finkelstein (400 meters) and sophomore Matthew Sallese (shot put) set personal records in their respective events. Sallese was competing for the first time in 2005.

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Tim Seeley finished fourth, beating his previous best by more than 26 seconds, and senior Christopher Martin posted the fifth-best time in Muhlenberg history.
