The Muhlenberg women’s track and field team displayed an outstanding group of freshmen at its second meet of the season, Susquehanna’s Orange & Maroon Classic.

Alex Faust had a busy meet, finishing in the top three in four events. She cleared 10 feet in the pole vault to tie the school record she set last week, then before attempting the next height had to go anchor the 4x200-meter relay team, which ran an ECAC-qualifying time. Later in the meet, Faust anchored the 4x400 to a first-place finish and came in third in the open 200.

Debra Crockett won the shot put with a throw of 36-6¾ that was within an inch of the school record. Another freshman, Janelle Mentrikoski, finished third in the 400 meters.

The men had strong performances from two of their veterans. Senior Matthew Sallese set a personal record in the shot put for the second week in a row, finishing first among college throwers and second overall; Mule assistant coach Chris White took first.

Junior Dan Steinhart won the 400 meters for the second straight meet and anchored the 4x400 relay, which finished second.

Sophomore David Chorney came in second with the sixth-best mile time in team history, nearly five seconds better than his top time of 2006.
